The FSA ID is an account username and password that allows students and parents to log in to StudentAid.gov and to identify themselves electronically to access the FAFSA application and other U.S. Department of Education systems. Once you create an account, you will not need to create a new one in the future. When creating the FSA ID, we recommend using a personal email and not a school email since Studentaid.gov and prospective schools may be contacting you beyond graduation. We recommend to save your sign-in information in a secure location for future use.

We suggest senior students create their FSA ID at least a month before the FAFSA application becomes available. The FAFSA application is expected to open in December of 2023. This will allow time for the 3 to 5-day activation process. Once it is activated, you will then be able to access the FAFSA application when it opens.

You and your parent would each create your own FSA ID accounts to access the FAFSA application in December of 2023. The student will use the FSA ID to sign in and begin to complete the FAFSA application during this session, there will be a step in the process where the student will invite contributors (parents) to access the account. This is where the parent's FSA ID will come into play; once they receive the email to access the student's FAFSA application, they will use their FSA ID to access and electronically sign the application. After the student's FAFSA application is complete, it approves the student for any possible student federal financial aid the student may be eligible for at colleges or career-related schools. Federal financial aid may be available to future full-time and part-time students. Once the schools receive your FAFSA status, they will then offer you the amount of financial aid that is available for their institution.
